This 50 year anniversary marks an important moment for Spectrum Workplace. It gives us time to reflect on five decades of change, growth and trusted client relationships. It also gives us a chance to look ahead.
Since 1975, Spectrum has evolved with the world of work. What started as a specialist business has grown into a multidisciplinary workplace partner. Today, we bring together workplace strategy, office interior design and project delivery. Through every stage, one belief has remained constant: workplaces should support the people who use them every day.
A 50 year anniversary shaped by people and purpose
David Fidler founded Spectrum on a simple principle. Workplaces should truly work for staff, clients and the wider organisation. That belief still guides the business today.
Over the years, workplace expectations have changed dramatically. Technology has transformed how teams communicate. Regulations have changed how projects are planned and delivered. Culture has also moved on, with organisations placing greater focus on flexibility, wellbeing, collaboration and staff experience.
However, Spectrum’s role has stayed clear. We listen carefully, understand each client’s needs and create workplaces that feel considered, practical and personal. As a result, our work has always been about people first.
Growing with the changing world of work
For more than 25 years, Director Jim Fidler has helped guide Spectrum through growth, change and reinvention. His leadership has balanced continuity with progress. Because of this, the business has continued to move forward while staying true to its values.
“When I look back over the last 25 years, what stands out most isn’t just how much Spectrum has grown, but how dramatically the world of work has changed. We’ve seen shifts in how people collaborate, where work happens, and what employees expect from their workplace.
The key for us has always been listening. Listening to our clients, to our teams, and to what the wider market is telling us. My father built Spectrum on strong values and long-term relationships, and that foundation has allowed us to adapt without losing who we are. As we move into 2026, that approach remains just as important.”
That mindset continues to shape Spectrum today. We understand that every workplace decision affects people, performance and culture. Therefore, we never treat design as a standalone exercise. We connect strategy, design, delivery and integration so that each project has a clear purpose from the start. Our 50 year anniversary is a testament to that.
A collaborative, design LED approach
Today, Spectrum is shaped by a growing leadership team. Designers, project managers and workplace consultants all bring insight, creativity and practical delivery knowledge to each project.
Collaboration sits at the heart of our approach. We begin by exploring how an organisation works, how teams interact and what the future needs to support. From there, we develop informed design solutions that align with the client’s culture, brand and commercial goals.
This process applies across many types of workplace project. It may include an office design project, a full relocation, a refurbishment or a wider transformation programme. In every case, our aim is to create working environments that support productivity, wellbeing and long-term flexibility.
As businesses continue to adapt, clients increasingly look for more than a design partner. They need a team that can help them make confident decisions before major investment begins.
That is why workplace consultancy is central to Spectrum’s work. We help organisations understand what their people need, how their space performs and where change will create the most value. This gives each project a stronger foundation and helps avoid costly assumptions later in the process.
From early engagement through to handover, our team works closely with clients and their staff. This builds trust, creates buy-in and helps people feel part of the journey.
