MEZZANINE FLOORS

Mezzanine floors can be used to convert warehouse space into 2-storey offices to maximise space.

MEZZANINE FLOOR DESIGN AND INSTALLATION.

Mezzanine floors are often used to make use of wasted headroom and create additional space - either for offices or storage. We have a lot of experience in designing and installing mezzanine floors to convert warehouse space into valuable office space.

The basic mezzanine structure is relatively simple but if offices are be incorporated you also need to consider fire protection in addition to structural integrity. If office space is being installed above the mezzanine then emergency travel distances and means of escape are vital to comply with building regulations. As with any office space you will also need to ensure sufficient ventilation for fresh air supply is provided.

MEZZANINE FLOOR INSTALLATION

Safety glove manufacturer Traffi converted a warehouse building to provide a 2-storey office and meeting room installation. This timelapse video shows the construction of the mezzanine platform that was installed at one end of the warehouse. The space on the mezzanine floor was mainly office space with one small managers office and a teapoint and breakout area.

MEZZANINE FLOOR CASE STUDIES.

Here are some recent examples of office spaces that have been built above or below a mezzanine floor. If done correctly it is very difficult to detect what is mezzanine floor and what is the original concrete slab.

HOW CAN YOU USE A MEZZANINE FLOOR TO CREATE MORE OFFICE SPACE?

One of the most common uses of mezzanine floors is to create additional office space. You may have a production or lab space that doesn't require much height and office space could be installed above. You may also have a requirement for long-term storage that could be stored above an office area. You may also want to create a 2 storey office to really maximise your space.

There are a number of considerations to bear in mind when planning to use a mezzanine floor to create office space including:-

  • Building control regulations
  • Fire escape routes and travel distances
  • DDA regulations to ensure equality of access
  • Structural loadings
  • Ventilation, heating and cooling
