Based on the 14th Floor within Aldgate Tower in the City of London, the project focused on delivering a workplace that would support a growing organisation operating at the intersection of technology, analytics and financial services. As a specialist provider of risk analytics software for the investment and pension fund sectors, RiskFirst required a workplace that would attract and retain talent, strengthen collaboration and create an environment that reflected its position as an innovative and fast-growing technology company.

At a time when many organisations within the financial and professional services sectors continued to operate from traditional office environments, RiskFirst sought to create a workplace that better reflected modern working practices and the expectations of a highly skilled workforce. The ambition was to move beyond conventional office design and deliver a space that prioritised collaboration, flexibility and employee experience while maintaining the professionalism expected within the financial technology sector.

From the outset, the design strategy focused on creating a workplace that encouraged interaction and knowledge sharing across teams. The layout was carefully planned to provide a balance between focused working environments, formal meeting spaces and informal collaboration areas, enabling employees to move seamlessly between different modes of work throughout the day. This flexibility was particularly important within a business driven by technical expertise, where both concentration and teamwork play a critical role in day-to-day operations.

A key focus of the project was enhancing workplace culture and employee engagement. A variety of breakout and collaborative environments were introduced throughout the office, creating opportunities for informal interaction, cross-departmental communication and social connection. These spaces help to break down traditional workplace barriers, encouraging a more open and connected culture while supporting employee wellbeing and satisfaction.

Feature furniture and workplace settings were carefully integrated to support a diverse range of activities and working styles. Distinctive collaboration pods, informal meeting areas and flexible touchdown spaces provide employees with greater choice and autonomy throughout the working day. These environments not only improve functionality but also contribute to the unique identity and character of the workplace.

The design language reflects the innovative nature of the business, combining contemporary finishes with bold accents and carefully considered detailing. A modern material palette was selected to create a professional yet energetic environment, balancing the expectations of a financial services business with the creativity and agility associated with the technology sector. The result is a workplace that feels sophisticated, engaging and representative of the business’s culture and values.

Employee wellbeing was a central consideration throughout the project. The workplace was designed to provide a variety of settings that support both productivity and comfort, recognising the importance of creating an environment where people can perform at their best while feeling connected to their colleagues and the wider business.

Delivered through close collaboration with the client team, the project required careful coordination to ensure the workplace aligned with operational requirements, company culture and future growth plans. Working with the building BMS system, a site shutdown had to be coordinated between all tenants for the integration works, requiring detailed planning and communication to ensure minimal disruption and safe delivery of critical building services integration. Throughout the process, a strong focus was placed on maintaining quality, consistency and attention to detail, ensuring the final environment delivered both functional and experiential value.

The completed headquarters provides RiskFirst with a modern, collaborative and future-focused workplace that supports innovation, strengthens workplace culture and enhances employee experience. By creating an environment that balances performance, wellbeing and flexibility, the project demonstrates how workplace design can support the evolving needs of technology-led organisations operating within the financial services sector.

Overall, the project showcases how thoughtful workplace transformation can help modernise traditionally corporate environments, creating a workplace that attracts talent, encourages collaboration and supports long-term business success.
